The importance of inside-out play

If you are looking for one category to take seriously with your college basketball betting, then you need to look to inside-out play. One of the things that bettors constantly talk about is that they lost because their team had a “poor” shooting night. They put all of their hopes on a team that needs to drain a bunch of threes to be successful. There is nothing particularly good about this, though. When you bet on teams like this, you need a lot to go right in order to win. That is not to say that you can’t be successful sometimes by betting on these teams.

The better idea is to go with balanced teams when possible. A team with good inside and out play will be less likely to slip up as a result of a poor shooting night. They will be able to sustain themselves through tough nights and still give you a chance to win and cover. Especially as tournament time rolls up and the defense gets tougher, this has to remain a focus for good bettors. Keep an eye on inside-out play and identify those teams that do both well. Then assess their value and decide whether or not they are being properly valued by the market before you decide to make a bet.

Getting “true” outcomes in the first half

One of the best ways to make college basketball picks is to focus on the first half. This is true when you are dealing with games with top seeds against lower seeds. In the early rounds, some teams will rest their players in the second half when they have a big lead. This is why some handicappers will say that the first half is a more “true” outcome than the second half.

There is also a problem with this. Many teams use their depth and their talent advantage to wear on the other team. For these types of games, the first half might not be a good value at all. The key is to think about the teams before you make college basketball picks. You don’t want to blindly bet using any trend. You have to give each matchup the respect and time that it deserves.

College Basketball and the Late Season Wind Down

College hoops is an interesting grind. It is a long season. It’s a season with injuries, difficulty, and many ebbs. College basketball bettors need to realize this and take note. If you are going to be a successful college hoops bettor, then it’s essential to understand these things. So how does the end of the season and the wind down impact college basketball picks? What do you need to know in order to give yourself the best chance at success?

One thing that you need to know is that some teams have gotten better over the course of the year. Some coaches just have a way of getting their team to play at a high level when March approaches. These teams will often be undervalued according to the numbers. This leads to some great value on the betting side. Try to target these teams that have a track record of improving late in the year. If you can do that, then you will be ahead of the game in terms of dealing with the late season wind down. There is no perfect way to assess value, but if you keep your eyes open, it is possible.

Buying college hoops futures

Futures bets are interesting in a number of ways, but they are a good way to find value in your college basketball betting. If you are truly looking for a good way to take a long shot on a team that might do it for you, then buying onto a future gives you a solid chance at that. But what should you be thinking about when you buy college hoops futures? This type of college basketball betting requires its own unique approach. Without that, you will stand no chance.

When you are doing futures betting in college basketball, your immediate goal has to be finding the best possible value. Look for teams that people have vastly undervalued. When you go this, you will have the ability to hedge your bets when the tournament rolls around. If you think a team has a great shot to go deep and you take a flier on them at 50-1, then you leave a lot of room for value at the end of the day. You might not win that bet, but you can hedge along the way and produce a profit. That is what college basketball betting is all about at the end of the day.

“Middling” in college basketballwith your NCAA picks

One of the things that many people will try to do in order to produce a profit is something called “middling.” The process is really quite easy. I have made a bet and it looks good at halftime. Perhaps I have bet a ten point underdog and they have a two point halftime lead. The second half line has the other team favored by 5.5 points. This means that I could potentially have my bet on the underdog plus ten points and have a bet on the favorite minus 3.5 points for the game. This would leave a six point middle to win both bets.

Know something about middling. It is dangerous. It can take away a winner and leave you with losing vig. But middling is good because it also removes risk. It removes the risk that you will lose your bet, while giving you a chance to win two bets. In certain situations where the potential middle is big enough, a smart player will take full advantage of this. Be smart about it and you can really clean up with middling.

Michigan’s Home Court – The Real Deal

When most people think of the best home courts in college basketball, they think of a few places. They might think of Cameron Indoor Stadium where Duke plays. They might think of Missouri’s home arena or Florida’s O-Dome. They might even think to Wisconsin, where the Badgers have been consistently good at the Kohl Center over the years. These are all very good choices for great home courts, but we might need to add a new challenger to the list. Michigan is playing great basketball at home and they have been doing it for a couple of years.

The Wolverines haven’t yet lost at game there in 2012 as of this writing. They have beaten Indiana and Wisconsin badly. They controlled Illinois at home, too. They beat Michigan State in that building, as well. All in all, Michigan plays great basketball in front of the home fans. This has to do with the crowd support, as the fans are vocal and they are right on top of the opposition. It also has to do with the interesting sight lines. The gym is unique and this gives Michigan an advantage. They shoot very well at home, so you need to take notice of this when you are making your college basketball picks this year.

Analyzing the Pac-12′s wacky scheduling quirks

When it comes to college basketball betting, one conference just makes things weird. What conference is that? It is the PAC-12. This league is interesting because of its geography. There are little clumps of teams in various areas. Two teams live in Oregon, while two are in Washington. Two are in northern California, while two are in SoCal. Two are in Arizona and there are a couple of teams near the Rocky Mountains. To deal with this, the PAC-12 makes its teams go on a road trips every weekend where they play each team in the pod. These games are typically done on a Thursday-Sunday schedule.

So what should you know when making your college basketball picks? First, you have to know that teams rarely win both games on the road in one weekend. It does not happen all that often and many teams will lay an egg on Sunday if they have come up with a big win on Thursday. Likewise, those teams that lose their Thursday home game typically respond well on Sunday. This is something that you absolutely have to remember if you are going to have long-term success in PAC-12 betting. You don’t want to get left behind.

NCAA College basketball betting and three point defense

When people today do their college basketball betting, one thing that they are constantly looking for is a good stat that helps them predict the outcome of the games. There is no perfect stat, but one stat is becoming more and more important each year. That stat is three point defense. We all know that the three point line has changed and will continue to change the way the game is played. So what do we make of defense? How do we know which teams are good enough to defend this all-important part of the basketball court?

Some people will settle just for three point percentage defense when making their college basketball picks. This is foolish, though. It does not take a look at the entire picture. The better approach is to also see how many threes a team allows their opponent to take. If a team is truly defending the three point line well, then there will not be opportunities to shoot. This is a good barometer for how well a team is playing on the perimeter. When you are looking to assess three point defense, you need to take a hard look at both of these things. It will give you a more complete picture.

Successful bankroll management in college basketball betting

So you want to win in college basketball? One of the most important things, then is for you to understand bankroll management. College basketball is probably the most challenging sport in regards to staying under control. Why is this the case? It’s because of all of the games. Teams play on all nights and there are one hundred games on Saturday. They go all day. People can feel enticed to put down too much on too many games. This is dangerous and can lead to some pretty poor results if you are not careful.

One of the smartest things in college basketball is to make all of your bets early. You will get the best number, for one, but you won’t be enticed to chase late in the day. Make all of your bets early and let them ride. Don’t feel the need to start throwing down money on games that you haven’t analyzed. If you get it in early, you will be much better off in the end.

When high altitude NCAA teams come down

Some articles have been written about the value of playing at high altitude. But what happens when those teams come down to face teams at sea level? Some people have come up with the idea that high altitude teams might be overvalued when they play on the road. Why is this the case? Well, if you think about it logically, you can come to the conclusion that thin-air teams often perform better at home than they should. They have better results at home, which makes people think they are better than they are actually are.

With this in mind, when those teams go out on the road, it can sometimes come back to haunt them. They can run into problems and the spread will be inflated already. This is why these teams often struggle to cover spreads away from home. Think about this the next time you go to make your college basketball picks. You might find that there is some value in betting against the thin air teams when they come to play the teams at sea level. This is not always true, but it is true in enough settings for it to be useful to sports bettors out there.
